Twitter no longer exists as a company.
Now, you must be confused because you can still use Twitter, the platform.
Well, Musk has merged Twitter with another entity called X Corp.
What is X Corp and why this sudden merger?
ReadOn!
đ¤What Happened to Twitter?
The most interesting part about this merger is how it was announced: no announcement.
Yes, no press conference, no fanfare.
It was all a silent affair untilâŚ
Twitter (or should we call it X Corp now?) had to disclose the change in a lawsuit. What lawsuit?
Back in 2018, Twitter banned activist Laura Loomerâs account because she allegedly used hate speech.
In response, Loomer had filed a lawsuit against Twitter and its former CEO Jack Dorsey for violating her free speech rights.
Now, this is the reply she received from Twitter:
Soon after Lauraâs tweet, Musk confirmed the merger:
Now, letâs look at the behind-the-scenes of this merger.
X Corp. was established on March 9 in Nevada and was merged with Twitter on March 15.
Why was all of this done silently?
Well, Twitter is no longer a public company, so it did not have to announce this merger.
Now, the question is why the merger?Â
Well, Musk had it planned all along:
And merging Twitter with X Corp. is the first step towards this.
đ§ Muskâs Master Plan
Yes, Musk wants to create an âeverythingâ app or a super app.Â
Yes, an app that does pretty much everything.
Want to book a flight? Open the super app.
Out of groceries? Super app.
Starting out with investments? You know where to head to.
Itâs like the solution to all your problems in life!Â
Just like your mom.
Looks like Musk might be taking cues from WeChat, one of the largest super apps in the world.
It started as a messaging platform and now, it is used for everything from food delivery to shopping to entertainment.
Musk could also follow the same path.
It could leverage Twitterâs 14 million daily active users in the US and become their go-to app for everything.
But, maybe Musk is being a little too ambitious.
Building and scaling super apps is super difficult.
𤨠Super Apps: Super Difficult to Crack?
Super apps have been successful only in certain Asian countries like China, Indonesia and Singapore.
Even Indiaâs first super app, Tata Neu, isnât getting a lot of traction.Â
WeChat has become a daily part of Chinese citizensâ lives because apps like Facebook and YouTube are banned in China.
Competition from existing players is very less in China. So, people have swiftly adopted WeChat.
In other countries, especially the US, a super app would face intense competition from already existing players.
People in the US are used to using different apps for different activities. So, breaking that habit and changing their behaviour would be difficult.
Plus, using an everything app would mean giving away all your data to one single app. Everything.
Scary, right?
With US regulators getting stricter with data privacy laws, an everything app sounds like a distant dream.Â
But, Musk has surprised us before and he may surprise us again.
Weâll have to see what Muskâs mastermind is really cooking.
What do you think is Muskâs long-term vision? And would you prefer a super app for everything?

Wow. Elon Musk is really giving the Left fascists some very negative feels.
i didn't prefer superapp because i prefer best option for my task and every best option isn't in super app.
