Right after a successful manned mission to the International Space Station the folks at SpaceX do not seem to be tired at all. SpaceX is gearing up for launching yet another Falcon 9 into the earth’s orbit.
This time it's for the residents of planet Earth.
SpaceX is set to launch 62 starlink satellites into the earth's orbit and move all the more closer to their mission of having 42,000 satellites in total to make what they are calling a “Satellite Constellation”.
So what's the fuss all about? Isn't it just another satellite launch?
Ummm, no!
It’s way more than that, this launch would add to the existing 300 satellites of the desired constellation that would create a mini constellation capable of generating a fully functional internet system.
Yes! You heard it right, all this shenanigans just to provide the we folks with a little more speed and stability for their internet.
So what exactly is Starlink and what do they intend to achieve?
Starlink is basically a division of SpaceX that aims to provide cheap and stable internet access to all parts of the planet, even the remotest of areas.
The mission is to make the internet accessible to all irrespective of the location from which a person desires to access it.
Starlink has set out to eliminate the dependence on wires and other land dependent infrastructure to access the internet, as more often than not such infrastructures have failed to provide 24x7 up and running services. Frankly, the current set-up take up a lot of good land, and are a mess to manage after natural disasters.
So, Elon Musk and his team at SpaceX decided to take the set-up and put it in the earth's orbit which is less prone to such calamities.
Fingers crossed, in a few more months both the USA and Canada could become the first countries to be fully equipped with nation-wide internet access connecting their rural and urban areas more efficiently.
Next time you look up into the night sky, think of StarLink, and think of where you read it first.
Here, watch the live launch with us at 14:50 PM IST.
