👩💻 Can We Live A Completely Digital Existence?
As our world is slowly dying, companies are busy building the metaverse. Here’s a look at what all this new universe is capable of.
While you and I were too busy dealing with this plane of reality, a lot of new developments have occurred in another realm.
The magical, mystical realm of the metaverse.
It has advanced way beyond our wildest dreams and the imaginations of the sci-fi writers who first conceived of this universe beyond ours.
A Completely Digital Existence 👩💻
What if we told you that in the future you could live a completely digital existence?
That you would potentially never have to step out of your house unless you wanted to.
This is precisely the future that metaverse companies want to create for us.
And understandably so.
With raging heatwaves and thunderous rains becoming the norm (thanks to climate change), going out is going to be a major hassle very soon.
So, you can live your life completely virtually on the metaverse.
Now, you must be thinking “screen pe jeena bhi koi jeena hai ?” (is a life lived on the screen worth living?)
But metaverse companies are trying to make this screen pe jeena just like the real world. How?
Well, through augmented reality and virtual reality tech (like headsets) a digital version of you can explore any world or any part of the world at any time.
VR can make you feel like you are in Paris, while you’re sitting in a stinking 1 BHK in India.
But wait, what if we told you that you won’t just be able to see Paris, but you can also feel it?
That’s the tech that H2L Technologies (a Japanese company) has developed.
How does it work? You have to wear a wristband, which will detect what you are doing in the metaverse and then send electric signals to your arms to make you feel what you would have felt in real life.
So, in the metaverse, you can actually go up to the Mona Lisa and touch it without being thrown out of the museum.
Meta is also developing haptic gloves that will allow you to do the same.
Okay, but what if I want to smell freshly baked bread from Paris bakeries?
That’s possible too.
OVR Technology has figured out a way to make you smell what you see in the metaverse.
All you have to do is load a cartridge by the company into your VR headset.
And you will be able to smell exactly what you want.
In the future, this could be further customised.
For instance, if you plan to visit a city, you could order cartridges associated with the place to get an authentic experience.
And if you actually want to taste the food you are smelling, there’s an invention for that as well!
A Japanese professor has created a prototype for a lickable screen. The screen has 10 different sprays that combine flavours to give you the taste of different dishes.
So, while you’re virtually at that bakery in Paris, you can stay home, lick the screen and taste that croissant.
But the metaverse is not just for fun and play.
It also has some serious applications in the field of medicine.
Medicinal Metaverse 👩⚕️
Thanks to Covid, telemedicine and telehealth have already seen huge advancements.
But the metaverse can help take this a little further.
Doctors can actually see avatars of patients in the metaverse and diagnose them better instead of just looking at an image on their laptops.
Plus, this could also give patients better insights into how they are healing.
For instance, if you’re getting physiotherapy for an injury, you can’t really quantify your everyday healing.
But in the metaverse, doctors can track your avatars and quantify even a 1% improvement (just like you get insights about characters in video games).
This could help motivate both doctors and patients.
What’s more, your avatar could serve as your digital twin on which doctors could try out different treatment or surgical options to help you understand which one will be the best for you.
So, you see, the metaverse is opening various new avenues to better our lives.
So much so, that we can even get treatment from our very own beds (not for major illnesses, of course).
The only innovation left? Allowing us to download food straight from the internet.
And that’s the one we’re personally looking forward to.
Let us know about more such crazy metaverse or tech inventions you have read about or want to see in the future.
In A Line: While we’re still debating whether work from home is better or work from office, tech companies have come up with innovations that may allow us to never step out of our homes.
Quick Question: Do you think the metaverse will bring us closer to people or just further bring distance, just like social media? Also, how unfit do you think we’ll get with this invention?
