And the Best Teacher’s Award Goes to…
Mr. Ranjitsinh Disale. Read this man's awe-inspiring story!
Last week, the winner of The Global Teacher’s Prize was announced. 140 countries, 12,000 participants, 10 finalists and one winner.
Disale won $1 million for his extraordinary work in educating young girls. The giver that he is, he promised to share half of the prize money with the other 9 finalists.
A firm believer in the greater good, his victory was not his own, but the victory of all those striving to make the world a better place.
Today, let us look at this Living Legend’s journey.
Disale did not have it easy. His was an arduous, almost impossible journey.
A young Disale wanted to make his mark in the IT sector. But, as for many others, engineering school turned out to be a major disappointment.
Watching his son dejected, his father encouraged Disale to take up teacher-training. Little did his father know that his words would not only change Disale Jr’s life, but also the life of many young girls in India.
This experience turned out to be an eye-opener for Disale, as he realized how revolutionary a teacher's role is in society.
From learning a new language to creating engaging methodologies to keep kids hooked, Disale left no stone unturned to impart education.
His passion in the IT sector and his dedication towards education gave birth to QR embedded textbooks, which enhanced the quality of student-textbook interaction.
He achieved what is rare even for the best of schools and societies - a 100% attendance of girls at schools and near abolishment of teenage marriages.
Disale's work with the young tribal village girls is proof of how revolution can be brought through the most humble and simplest methods. It tells us how passion matters more than money; that not having “resources” shouldn’t stop one from doing what’s right - doing what’s important.
Disale’s story was not just appreciated locally. He was also covered in Satya Nadella's book, Hit Refresh.
What’s more! His work does not stay limited to India.
Let’s Cross the Borders is Disale’s international programme for youth. The aim? To connect youngsters of countries that share bitter relations (like India and Pakistan, Palestine and Israel, Iran and Iraq, and the US and North Korea) and encourage them to talk and build a connection, ultimately leading to world peace.
Disale’s journey has inspired many around the globe and will continue to inspire generations to come. Seldom do we see pioneers who go the full mile, and achieve what seems impossible to most.
While some hide behind shadows and just talk, others go out in the sun and show them how it’s done.
ReadOn congratulates and salutes Disale's dedication and humility. More power to you, Sir!
