😴 Putting the "Power" Back in Power Naps
Taking naps can be a pain in the back literally. Can startups solve this problem also?
Humans are the only species that willingly delay sleep.
Lions and tigers sleep for over 15-20 hours a day.
And humans, who are at the top of the food chain, manage to get only 7 hours of sleep (if that) on a good day.
45% of people across the globe are sleep-deprived. Result of this sleeplessness?
Lack of productivity and efficiency. So much so that it costs the world a trillion dollars almost every single year!
Only if we could sleep well! You see, our current hustle culture has made it very difficult to get the required 8 hours of beauty sleep at night.Â
So, what's the solution?
Quit your job?
Nah, just take a nap!
😴 The Importance of A Nap
As Indians, napping is part of our culture.
And it's not just our country that chooses to sleep in the afternoon.Â
Countries like Spain, Norway, Japan, and many others have a nap culture.
And, why not?
Naps are proven to help you increase efficiency, reduce stress and boost performance.
A 40-minute nap increases productivity by 34%!
And humans are "biphasic sleepers": we need to sleep at least twice a day.
So, a lot of companies are now adopting "power naps" (ReadOn is big on afternoon naps too!).
Many companies also have nap pods to help you sleep better.
But that's still an amenity that is only available to very few employees.
The rest of us have to make do with sleeping haphazardly on our desks, on public transport, or on flights.
But these not-so-comfortable naps often do more harm than good.
Umm, why?
Well, when you're napping on your desk or on the bus, you're not sleeping in the right posture.
This could lead to severe neck and back pains and more sleep problems in the future.
So, should we stick to gulping cups of coffee?
Nuh-uh.
🚀 Enter napEazy
An India-born startup called napEazy has come up with the perfect solution to our napping problems: An ergonomic pillow that you can take with you wherever you want.
This is no ordinary pillow: it can function as your bed pillow, a backrest while you're working, a neck pillow for travel, and even a nap stand for the perfect nap on the go!Â
It is the world’s only pillow that provides neck, back and spine support.
napEazy aims to put the power in power naps by making sure you get the perfect rest without any aches or pains.
Okay ReadOn, sounds good, but is there a market for this product?
Let’s look at the numbers: Over 35% of adults between the ages of 30-50 nap daily.
And 33% of adults who nap every day earn over $100,000 annually.
This is exactly why the ergonomic pillow market is worth over $12.7 billion.
Not just that, many companies could also adopt napEazy instead of investing in building complex structures like nap pods.
Plus, napEazy has the first-mover advantage in this space.
Even though it has a lot of competitors in the ergonomic pillow and mattress space like SleepyCat and DuroFlex, nobody really offers the unique proposition that napEazy offers.
However, because of this proposition, the startup’s setting up costs are also very high.

âš¡ In a line: Humans need naps but taking them in public spaces was not very easy; until napEazy entered the market.
💡Quick question: Do you think this product will improve your sleep quality?
Noob’s Corner: First Mover Advantage is basically the advantage that a company gets when it is the first to enter a market. It usually gets this advantage because it is able to create a market share and a mind share (a space for itself in your mind) before others enter the market. First mover advantage is why photocopies will always be called Xerox (which is a brand name and not the name of the actual photocopying process) and chocolates will always be Cadbury.
